Mertz, Depperschmidt and Schoenberger
Trace: Hello, Does anyone have information on Mertz, Depperschmidt, or Schoenberger? My relatives: Peter Depperschmidt, his second wife (Anna Catherina Reyberger which I'm not related to), children (a mixture from first and second marriage), Alexander, Carl, Heinrich, Dorothea, Elisabeth, and Maria came to the United States on the S.S. Suevia in 1876. Carl and Heinrich were adults. Carl came with his wife Mary Eva (possibly Maria Eva) and their daughter, Catherina (possibly spelled, Katherina). Mary Eva's maiden name is Mertz (possibly spelled, Merz). To my knowledge, they were all born in Schoenchen, Russia. None appear to be Schoenchen First Settlers. Depperschmidt does not appear on the Schoenchen census until sometime after the 1798 census, but Depperschmidt does appear on the 1798 census for Zug. Merz is in the 1798 census for Schoenchen, but Merz and Mertz are listed in many of the other villages as well. When they were all travelling to the United States in 1876, it appears that they were on the ship at the same time as Frederich Werth, who married a woman whose maiden name was also, Mertz. I believe her name was, Anna. I suspect that she could be related to Mary Eva, Carl's wife, but I have not confirmed this. As for Schoenberger, there is only one that I know of. Pete Schoenberger. He was born in Russia, but I don't know where. He came to the United States, but I don't know when. He married Carl Depperschmidt's only child that was born in the United States, Anna. So far as I know he was born in the 1870's. First and foremost, I am wanting to know about the Mertz family. All I know of is Mary Eva (Maria Eva), and I barely know anything about her. I would like to trace her family back as far as I can. I would also like to know more about the Depperschmidt's and Schoenberger's. The trails of all three families have run cold for me. Any information that someone can give me would be greatly appreciated!
